CSKA opened the Junior tournament with a big win

CSKA Moscow opened the Kamkabel Junior tournament with a big win over the champion team Zalgiris Kaunas, 70-60. CSKA took off to an 8-point lead already after one quarter, 10-18, and maintained the lead throughout the entire game.

Zalgiris vs CSKA: 60-70

The margin crossed the 10-point line deep in the third and Nikita Shabalkin was the leading scorer for CSKA with 24 points and 10 rebounds and a very impressive performance. Nikita Kourbanov added 15 and George Tsintsadze displayed some good skills at the point guard position with 12 points and 7 steals.

Mantas Simonavicius nailed 20 points for Zalgiris, the promising 217-centimeter center Martynas Andriuskevicius had an average game but still finished with a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards while Paulius Abramavicius had the best evaluation with 10 points, 5 assists and big domination on the boards with 14 rebounds.


CSKA guard George Tsintsadze:

-I think we’re a pretty good team. Today we played okay, but I don’t know the other teams, so I can’t estimate how high we are going to finish.

CSKA guard Vasiliy Zavoruev:
- I thought we played well. It was the first game but we can be satisfied. We play good defense. Thanks to this we won the game. I usually shoot better and I hope to improve this aspect of my game tomorrow.
