The Juniors team of CSKA Moscow made sure the 2004 Final Four will have a sweet taste for the club after all. CSKA became the second Euroleague Kamkabel Junior Tournament Champion after a huge win over Montepaschi Siena:
Montepaschi vs CSKA: 62-90
CSKA’s ruled the first quarter both on offense and defense. Nikita Kurbanov and Vasiliy Zavoruev were everywhere on court and after 6 minutes of play CSKA led 14-4. Until the end of the quarter each team doubled its budget and CSKA took a 28-8 lead after 10 minutes. A superb dunk by Valery Likhodey marked the ongoing domination of CSKA in the 2nd quarter as Montepaschi called for a timeout down by 17, 36-19. Luca Vitali led a small comeback for Montepaschi but a big 3 pointer by Vassili Zavoruev right before the buzzer set the halftime score on 44-28 for CSKA. There was no big news on court in the 3rd quarter. CSKA maintained its lead for 10 more minutes and enjoyed a 67-52 lead after 3 quarters. Nikita Shabalkin opened the 3rd quarter with a big slam dunk for CSKA and his team crossed the 20 point margin. A huge block by the same Shabalkin on Luigi Datome, Montepaschi’s superstar, sealed the deal for this final and in the last minutes CSKA just kept increasing its lead until the buzzer stopped the scoreboard on 90-62.
