The long-awaited Euroleague season starts for our team on October 11 from the game vs Lietuvos Rytas on Megasport Arena. It will be worth to come earlier: the fans will be able to get much more than just a high-level basketball game.
CSKA starts the season in full strength, with no injured or ill players. The army men had their first practice on Khodynka Field tonight with only one player who has an experience of playing on the same floor – Andrey Vorontsevich played 3 minutes in memorable game against TAU Ceramica in January 2008.
"We have a big game ahead of us,” - CSKA head coach Ettore Messina said. “Not only because it’s the opening game of this Euroleague season but because we have a new team which has a lot to prove. For me, personally, it is special because I return to the Euroleague after a one-year absence. We will have a new home in Megasport Arena and understand that playing basketball the good way can attract more fans to our games. Like every season, it becomes more and more difficult to play in the Euroleague. Defense and rebounding are even more important in the big games because they give you extra possessions - they make you not so dependent on shooting percentages. We are ready to work hard for these extra possessions.”
“The event program starts at 6 pm when Matjaz Smodis and Ramunas Siskauskas will meet the media in arena’s press center and continues at 7 pm when both CSKA legends will move to the Palace’s hall for the autograph-session. The farewell ceremony for Matjaz and Ramunas will take place in halftime.
