Plus a year to Army history!

27.08.2013
The next October will be jubilant for basketball army club. We are going to celebrate “90” earlier on a year written in official documents.

Official debut of our team is supposed to be 1924 and they called our team CDKA which was wrong. By club’s Veteran council initiation there was made research with great help of the famous army sports historian Nikolai Chigirin. The research proved the existence of the basketball section and its performance in Moscow championship in 1923.

As known “big” CSKA has two start points. The first one is June, 1901 when the charter of the Society of fans of skiing (OLLS) established. The second one – April, 29, 1923 is the date of the first game of OPPV football team. The team was given to Ministry of Defense.

OPPV formed a lot of different sport sections including basketball. First mention of official performance was in October, 1923. There were games on Moscow and province championship. Date of the final – October, 21. Earlier the same team played as “team Moscow”. All the information was found in old newspapers “Izvestia Sporta” (¹31-32, December, 1923).

Memorable dates of army team:

February, 1928. In honor of 10th anniversary of creating RKKA, OPPV with the whole bases and teams were included in Central house of Red Army (CDKA) as department of physical culture and sports.

October, 1953. By the order of the USSR Ministry of Defence ¹0129 (30.09.1953) was found Central sport club of Ministry of Defense (CSK MO). It included sport bases of CDKA and the Moscow military district VVS.

April, 1960. Central sport club of Ministry of Defense renamed into Central sport club of the Army (CSKA).

Because of the club’s jubilee we created special style and during the season team will play in uniforms with elements of retro design.

Andrey Vatutin, PBC CSKA President:
Turned out to be an extraordinary jubilee of basketball CSKA we meet with joy because the team, its veterans and fans have something to be proud of. Unfortunately, our country has almost no structured basketball archives, because a lot of work done over the last few years is very important. We have created a Veterans Council, with the active participation of which honor the great players and coaches of the past, holding a farewell match our stars, carefully study the historical documents. Fans will find many interesting activities, we will saturate the materials of past victories of our online resources, and the team will try to fill almanacs with new CSKA wins.
