Our youth team had a practice after two days off to prepare for the coming games against Zenit-2. CSKA-2 players had stretching, warm-up and exercises with the ball. During one of the exercises Ruslan stopped and collapsed. Other players picked him up and transferred to the team’s medical staff.
Resuscitation actions, including defibrillation, carried out by doctors of our club and ambulance did not give any result. In total three teams of resuscitators were involved. The death of the player was recorded in about an hour after the incident.
Andrey Maltsev, CSKA junior project head coach:
It was a huge shock for all of us, and now it’s hard for me to find any words. Ruslan was the most diligent and kind guy in our team, its laconic leader. He started playing serious sports late enough as he grew in South Ossetia, then in Northern Ossetia. Despite all difficulties he learned big basketball and Russian language at the same time which he spoke not so well. He always carefully did his job on the court, he was honest, conscientious boy and he had no bad habits. Parents raised Ruslan as the worthy man, he knew what is to respect the elders, he was unspoiled innocent boy, blank sheet of paper. He tried to become a good player and to use his natural talent. We do not understand how it could happen. All of the players held in-depth medical examination before the preseason. Also last year he was examined in U16 national team of Russia. There were no signs of such trouble.
Professional basketball club CSKA expresses sincere condolences to the family of Ruslan Gagloyev.
