Our team to start the Gomelsky Cup with a game against Laboral Kutxa Baskonia.
“As always the Gomelsky Cup is our last test before the start of the season,” CSKA head coach Dimitris Itoudis said. “The games of the tournament will be the first for De Colo, Teodosic and Kravtsov during the period of preparations. We hope that the fans from Moscow will come to honor the memory of Alexander Gomelsky, one of the greatest coaches in basketball history, and to enjoy good games. I’d like to mention also that we will face tough competition: Panathinaikos, Laboral and UNICS are big names in European basketball, every team consider it prestigious to perform in the Cup.”
It should be reminded that our team had to react quickly to the series of injuries and to make roster moves. Joel Freeland is out for a long term with left calf injury. Pavel Korobkov and Demetris Nichols are questionable. After the team added Viacheslav Kravtsov the coaching staff thanked Anatoly Kashirov and let him go. Ivan Lazarev still stays with the Army Men.
It will be the 8th edition of the Cup named after Alexander Gomelsky. CSKA was unable to take the trophy in the first two years but then won it five times in a row.
