Gavrilov is coming from the Army Men sports school and our club’s junior project, so in fact he is wearing red and blue colors for the past 12 years. He was one of the second team’s leaders past two seasons. Alexander is a 3-time Youth Championships’ winner and Russian JBL champion, he was named the VTB United Youth League Final 8 Best Point Guard this year. The player averaged 10.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.7 steals for CSKA-2 in 2015-16 season. He also made his debut for the main team and score single point in away game against Enisey.
Dimitris Itoudis, CSKA head coach:
We closely follow Sasha’s progress, he spent two preseason camps with us. He definitely improves as a point guard, in understanding the game, and now the time has come to make a step forward, to be among men and compete on higher level. It is his time to show up, and we want him to grow as a professional player.
Alexander Gavrilov, CSKA guard:
I passed a long way to reach this moment, I went all the way, starting from CSKA Sports School, continuing to JBL and CSKA-2. I remember myself watching my favorite players from the stands here in CSKA when I was 9-10 years old. So now I am happy. I will continue working and I will try to earn the right to play in my favorite team’s uniform.
