Junior team starts from the win

CSKA Moscow left no doubt about which team is the top candidate to win the Kamkabel Junior Tournament by overwhelming Climamio Bologna 98-54 later on today.

Anatoly Kashirov led the winners with 25 points and 8 rebounds, Yaroslav Korolev added 17 points on 7 of 8 two-pointers, Igor Smyghin had 14 points and 14 rebounds while Artur Urazmanov had 10 points and 6 assists for CSKA. Alessandro Piazza had 15 points for Climamio.

Kashirov was the man of CSKA in the early going, as he took over with 2 fast break dunks and all points in a 9-5 opening run. Climamio called timeout, but CSKA carried on rolling. Urazmanov made consecutive layups and Gubanov added a five-meter jumper for a 11-point CSKA lead, 18-7. Climamio tried a zone defense which worked for a while, but Urazmanov followed a three with a no-look pass for a Kashirov layup. Korolev scored his fourth basket in the final seconds for a 32-16 CSKA margin after 10 minutes.

Piazza and Marco Vettore tried to wake Climamio up early in the second, but their team only managed to echange baskets for a while. A big three by Piazza brought Climamio within 39-24. The scoring pace got slower off a timeout, but a three-point play by an unstoppable Kashirov got CSKA back in track. Urazmanov buried a triple and Sheleketo added a two-hand dunk which capped 10-0 run and boosted CSKA's margin to 51-26 at halftime.

The outcome was clear, especially once Korolev fired in a bomb from downtown to make it a 31-point game, 60-29. Climamio couldn't find the way to the basket, while Kashirov and Korolev allowed CSKA to extend its lead to 77-40 at the end of the third ans rest its main players for a hard day tomorrow.
