CSKA junior team’s opening game on the first day of international tournament in Kaunas ended with a convincing win over our today’s opponents: Latvian Riga, whose players couldn’t do anything to stop, for certain, more skilled Army men, was outmatched with final score 102-59.

CSKA – Riga: 102-53

CSKA: Gusev (25 + 7 reb), Nelyubov (24 + 8 reb), Shved (15 + 6 as + 3 st), Shashkov (9), Pekhov (6 + 7 reb), Zakharov (6 + 5 st), Tyumentsev (5 + 6 reb + 4 bs), Khodorov (4 + 7 reb), Polokhin (3), Golovin (3), Babynin (2)

After the game we asked coach Andrey Maltsev for comments:

- We jumped out to a big early lead and never looked back. It gave us an opportunity to try different offensive tactics, various combinations of players and, what is more important, we gave some time to all guys to catch a rhythm of game. Only Dmitriy Golovin spent fewer minutes than others because of his not too serious injury. Latvian big men were shorter than ours - that affected the final result too. We were satisfied with our three-point percentage – 44. The only thing that upsets us is the number of turnovers, but it was partly concerned with our request to guys to act at full speed and also with their nervousness on the first day of competition.
