CSKA vs. UNICS Kazan: 75-77
Evgeny Pashutin, CSKA head coach:
“We are different team without Kaun. In just another game with Sasha out we are experiencing the same problems we had in the beginning of the season, when we had no dominating center. We lost to Kazan not because of bad shooting percentage, but because we let our opponents to control our paint, to win 16 offensive rebounds. We were ok when we played with fresh legs, but later on Lampe and Loncar smashed us. Khryapa made 15 rebounds but no one could help him except Pops. But at the same time Pops played well against man-to-man defense. When UNICS played zone, he was falling down, he could not catch the ball. Smodis is still rehabilitating, he is getting lost in physical game under the baskets. In the game at Dynamo our idea was to let all the young players play, but we used the shorter rotation today. The team did not have aggressiveness, the fire in the eyes during all the third leg. That’s unacceptable, and we will make appropriate conclusions.”
