In last home game of TOP16 CSKA defeat Real Madrid, took the first place in the group and guaranteed the ticket to play-off. In some moments of the game the advantage of army team was 31 points.
CSKA - Real: 89-73
The best scorer of the game was Marcus Brown with 21 points. The guard spent on the court less time than usual because of the 3rd foul received in the middle of the 2nd quarter. He was followed by David Andersen (14), Dimos Dikoudis and J.R.Holden (13 each).
CSKA stepped on the court more motivated than ever and Real could do nothing but watch the gap getting larger and larger. Only in the middle of the 2nd quarter Real made a 13-3 run that helped the guests to start the second half with CSKA ‘only’ 18 points ahead.
But in the 3rd quarter Real looked helpless and almost lost the hope to qualify to the next stage of the Euroleague. CSKA stayed motivated enough to set the gape at 74-43 mark but after that the team relaxed a bit but the control was still in CSKA hands until a very last moment of the game – 89-73.
The head coach of CSKA Dusan Ivkovic:
I think that today game was clear after the first quarter already. After the game against Barcelona we turned back, we have shown good rhythm and game controlling. I did not expect so easy game. If first 4,5 minutes Real did not score any points. Today we gave opportunity to play all 12 players and I want to congratulate them with the first place in our group. Now we are close to play-off. We have two games before it: against Spartak and Scavolini. We need to prepare to this games very good.
The head coach of Real Bozidar Maljkovic:
It is really hard to prepare tactic to the opponent like CSKA. Two our main and best players Bennett and Bullock had physical problems, and it was very big problem. CSKA played great in defense 5 to 5, made many fast breaks. After the lose to Barcelona they mobilized very good.
